Amplification of Cerenkov Luminescence Using Semiconducting Polymers for Cancer Theranostics

The therapeutic efficacy of photodynamic therapy is limited by the ability light to penetrate tissues. Due this limitation, Cerenkov luminescence (CL) from radionuclides has recently been proposed as an alternative source in a strategy referred radiation-induced (CRIT). Semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNs) have ideal optical properties, such large absorption cross-sections and broad absorbance, which can be utilized harness relatively weak CL produced radionuclides. SPNs doped with photosensitizers ≈100% energy transfer efficiency multiple mechanisms. Herein, optimized photosensitizer-doped SPN investigated nanosystem amplify for cancer theranostics. It found that semiconducting polymers significantly efficiency. Bimodal positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies show high tumor uptake retention when administered intravenously or intratumorally. Lastly, it excellent potential theranostics vivo study. This study shows are ideally suited theranostics, may provide significant advancement CRIT unabated tissue penetration limits.
